Stephen J. Richman, MD F.A.C.S.
Ophthalmologist
Dr. Stephen Richman joined Koch Eye Associates in the summer of 2004. His practice focuses on the medical and surgical conditions of the eyes related to diabetes; retinopathy, glaucoma and cataracts.
Dr. Richman is a graduate of Brown University and received his M.D. degree from Boston University School of Medicine. After completing his internship at Philadelphia General Hospital, he trained as a resident in general surgery at Pennsylvania Hospital in Philadelphia. He served in the United States Navy (MC) as senior medical officer aboard the U.S.S. Hunley and staff surgeon at Quonset Point Naval Air Station. Following his service in the Navy, he trained at Yale University Medical School as a fellow and resident in Ophthalmology
Dr. Richman was one of the first clinical investigators in the application of LASER photocoagulation for the treatment of diabetic retinopathy. His area of expertise has been enhanced by 30 years of clinical experience treating patients with diabetes. He has published journal articles, been invited to present scientific papers, and received the Distinguished Teacher Award from Brown University Medical School for his 25 years of teaching as a Clinical Assistant Professor of Surgery (Ophthalmology). His peers have consistently voted him “Top Doctor” in Ophthalmology since 1996 in the Rhode Island Monthly surveys.
He is board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology, has been elected to fellowship in the American College of Surgeons (F.A.C.S.), and is a fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology.
