What is BOTOX?
BOTOX is a quick and virtually painless injectable treatment that can be given to men and women who suffer from or are annoyed by signs of aging that are commonly found around the eyes. If you are experiencing fine lines and wrinkles around the eyes, our team is proud to offer BOTOX injections to those in the Greater Rhode Island area.
BOTOX injections are a specialized strain of type A botulinum toxin that temporarily freezes the facial muscles in the upper face and eye region. These repetitive muscle contractions are responsible for Crow’s feet and other facial wrinkles. BOTOX injectable treatments can smooth out these lines by restricting the muscle and rejuvenating the facial appearance.

Ideal Candidates
BOTOX injections are ideal for patients who wish to diminish and soften the appearance of lines and wrinkles on their upper face in a nonsurgical way. BOTOX is often thought of as a preventive anti-aging treatment, even if wrinkles have not yet formed. It’s a terrific, nonsurgical treatment if you have obvious upper facial wrinkles, Crow’s feet, or noticeable furrows between the brows. Clients with deep-seated wrinkles may want to consider a surgical option. This would deliver a more dramatic result and is meant to last for years. Also, if you have eyelid issues, like drooping skin that obstructs your vision, our BOTOX treatment may be a good solution for you. Koch Eye Associates also offers eyelid surgeries as a more lasting oculoplastic solution.
Our Injection Technique
BOTOX injections are performed as an outpatient procedure right at Koch Eye Associates. If it is your first visit for BOTOX, we often perform the procedure within the same day as your consultation. You will be asked to make a number of facial expressions with your upper face, such as frowning, squinting, smiling, etc., which will help us to determine where to place the injections.
The BOTOX procedure is performed with very fine needles and a topical anesthetic, which can be applied before the treatment begins. The injection will be followed by a cold compress to help lessen discomfort, swelling, and bruising. Since it's usually such a small area that needs to be treated, the procedure should only take a few minutes, after which you may resume your normal activities.
What to Expect
Following the procedure, you can resume your typical schedule, but strenuous activities, like exercise, should be skipped for a minimum of one day. You will be advised to sleep upright for the first night and to avoid touching your face, which can accidentally spread the BOTOX to other areas. The injected sections of the face can appear bruised, swollen, or red for a few days, but you should not have any long-lasting or serious side effects. In most cases, it typically takes around 5 – 7 days before the final effects of BOTOX become visible. The results usually last 3 – 4 months. Ask one of our associates about when to schedule your next appointment at Koch Eye Associates for continued results.
